Babushan Mohanty Biography

Today, if you are looking for a young Odia actor who can act versatilely, the only name you will find is Babushan Mohanty. He is a frontline Odia actor and also a playback singer. He mostly works in the Odia film industry, which is also called Ollywood. He has worked in more than 40 Odia Films, most of which are superhits. 

Recently Babushaan has acted as the lead actor in the blockbuster Odia movie Daman. Initially, the film was praised so much by Odia people later it got great word of mouth which helped to reach a wider audience. Now, critics and reviewers from all over the country are praising it. It took Babusan to another dimension by gaining so much popularity throughout the country.

Early Life And Education

Babushaan Mohanty was born in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, on 30th July 1989, in a well-known film stars family.  He is the only son of the veteran actors Uttam Mohanty and Aparajita Mohanty. The childhood name of Babushan was Tanmaya Mohanty. The veteran couple had never thought that their son would also make his career in films by following in their footsteps. He had a deeper interest in singing, so they professionally trained Babushan in Classical Singing. He started singing at the age of 10 years old. 

Along with his singing, he was also very bright in his studies. Babu did his schooling at DAV Public School, college at G.K.V.M  Subalaya, and PG at KIIT University, Bhubaneswar, Odisha.

Career In Film

People say Babushaan Mohanty is a professionally trained singer and born actor. Today he established himself in a top position in both the singing and acting categories. Many actors in the Ollywood industry, like Sabyasachi Mishra, Akash, Amlan Das, Arindam Roy, Anubhav Mohanty, etc., but  Babusan kept them behind easily when it came to the acting department.

As an Actor

As an actor, Babushan Mohanty started his acting career in 2009 with the movie ‘Romeo – The lover boy’ under the direction of veteran actor Hara Patnaik. In an interview, Uttam Mohanty said he and his wife Aparajita, had never wanted their son to pursue an acting career. One day the couple went along with Babusan for an occasion to the house of Veteran Odia film producer Basant Nayak. The producer noticed Babushaan there and immediately signed him for his next movie, Romeo – The Lover Boy.

From the debut movie, people had kept so many expectations from Babusan though he was the son of their favorite star couple, Uttam Mohanty and Aparajita Mohanty. Babu did not disappoint them; from there, he never stopped and gave his fans so many super-hit movies.

Until now, he acted in more than 40 Odia films, including Chocolate, Sister Shridevi, Love Station, Sanju Aau Sanjana, Bidyarana, Premam, and the recent blockbuster movie Daman. The hype of the movie Daman gave him a new height in his career by introducing him to a global audience.

Every director wants to collaborate with Babushaan for their movie or projects because of his dedication to his work. Some directors have shared that he is so professional in shooting sets. For example, He turned himself into a beautiful lady character by executing proper gestures in the movie Sister Sridevi. He hit the gym to transform his body fitness for the requirement of the action-oriented character in the film Bidyarana. And recently he showed his method acting in the movie Daman.

As a Singer

Babushaan Mohanty is a great actor and singer also. From childhood, he was getting training on Classical Shastriya Sangeet. Babu always gave priority to his singing before acting.  

He says, “I act in movies for the people, and I sing songs for my heart, my self-satisfaction”. Even he had signed his first movie Romeo- the lover boy, with the condition that he could do that movie if he got the chance to sing at least three songs of that movie.

People got overwhelmed and praised him for his multi-talented acting and singing skills. In his singing career, he sang many hit songs in movies like Romeo the lover boy, Prema Adhei Akhyara, Chocolate, Idiot, Super Michhua, Love Station, Bidyarana, Daman, etc. Usually, his songs are based on romantic, sad, and comedy genres. In an interview, he shared, “ I never asking the directors or producers from my side to sing any song in any of my movies. If they told me to sing any song in the movie, then I would do that happily. Acting is my profession, and singing is my passion. That is why I never charged a single penny for singing all of my movie songs”.

Controversies

On 23rd July 2022, It was a shocking but embarrassing incident that Babushan Mohanty, his wife, and actress Prakruti Mishra got into an ugly fight on a busy street in the Satya Nagar area of Bhubaneswar. The incident took place in the early daylight morning time.  

The incident began as Trupti Satpathy stopped a white car, which her husband was driving with actress Prakruti Mishra sitting beside him. Satpathy was seen trying to drag her husband out of the car. In the meantime, Prakruti interfered between them, so Trupti got angry, turned towards her, and tried to grab Prakruti’s phone. Also, she snatched Prakruti’s hair from the back to stop her from escaping. 

According to Trupti’s allegation, Babusan and Prakruti Mishra had an external affair for one and a half years. They mostly stayed in rented guest houses in different areas in Bhubaneswar, and he rarely visited his family.

Several video clips of the whole incident went viral. The same day, by countering, two cases were registered from both sides of the families at Kharavela Police Station, Bhubaneswar.

Babushan Wife And His Family

Babushaan Mohanty comes from a film star’s family. He is the only child to his parents. His father name is Uttam Mohanty. He is a veteran Odia actor who dominated for nearly two decades throughout the 80’s and 90’s period in the Odia film fraternity having more than 130 movies to his name. 

Babushan mother name is Aparajita Mohanty. She is also a veteran actress popularly known as the all-time charming queen of the Ollywood industry. She has given so many super hit movies within her four-decade-long film career. Also, Mrs. Mohanty established her career in Politics.

Babushan Mohanty wife name is Trupti Satpathy. She is highly qualified and works as a prominent school teacher at SAI International School, Bhubaneswar. Both Babu and Tripti were good friends from their schooling time. Later, they fell in love with each other, and In 2014 they got married in Bhubaneswar. After seven years of marriage, both had their first child, a baby boy named Samarth Mohanty (Gwan), on 6th April 2021. 

Daman Odia Movie Impact On Babushaan Career

When Babushan Mohanty Debuted in Ollywood, at that time, the remake culture had already started in Odia movies. Most Odia producers and directors then only wanted to invest their money and time into pre-made hit stories from Telugu, Tamil, or Hindi. That is why Babusan’s most of film stories were copied from the south and based on love stories or comedy. 

Despite the stories being copied, people were still loved Babusan’s acting, but gradually the audience footfall decreased. At the same time, audiences were demanding genuine content or some inspiring stories from the land of Odisha.

In 2022, the director duo Debi Prasad Lenka and Vishal Mourya came up with an inspiring story from the land of Odisha. In this movie, Babushaan Mohanty played the lead character Dr. Siddharth Mohanty. The film is inspired from the life of Dr. Omkar Hota and some true events from the state of Odisha.

The Daman movie came as genuine and inspiring content with the proper script, direction, acting, cinematography, and soulful music, which is the reason people liked it very much. It reveals the full potential of Babushaan as a method actor in a better way. Now his acting and singing in the movie are praised not only in Odisha but all over the country. The movie’s growing popularity in the non-Odia region forced the producer to rerelease it with the Hindi dubbed version on a pan-India scale with the help of a big production house.

Many critics and seniors shared that in the past when the Odia film industry was under heavy financial stress; It was only Uttam Mohanty’s efforts and charm that saved the industry. Now his son Babushaan came with the movie Daman as a savior of the dying Ollywood industry.
