Early Life

Mihir Das was born on 11 February 1959 in the Mayurbhanj district of Odisha. They were three brothers and two sisters, and Mihir was the fourth youngest child among five children. When he was born, his left leg was slightly bandy, so he walked abnormally during his early childhood. His parents usually covered that leg into the sand, and after some months of treatment, he recovered from that. He has spent his life’s different times in many different cities of Odisha like Baripada, Sambalpur, Chatrapur of Ganjam, Cuttack, and many other places.

The Childhood Filled With Naughtiness

Mihir was quite naughty during his childhood days. By knowingly or unknowingly, there are a lot of funny incidents he did that time. He was a very foodie kind of nature who always wanted only to eat. He usually ate food from shops and ran without paying money, later the shopkeeper took the money from his father. He used to like to eat Rice by mixing Milk and lots of Milk- Cream with Sugar.

Mihir Das’s childhood years were also spent in Ganjam district when his father shifted from Baripada to Chatrapur due to work. Though he was the youngest son in the family, his affection was little more than others. During his schooling period, he didn’t have an interest in studies. He usually blackmailed his parents into avoiding school by threatening to jump into their well.

So sometimes, his father agreed with his decision and allowed him to take leave that day. Because of this kind of behaviour, sometimes school peons came and took him to school by binding his body. Another incident happened with him while staying in Chatrapur that he was drowned in a pond and saved by one local boy. Also, he got kicked by a donkey during his childhood because of his naughty behaviour.

First Step Towards Acting

While studying in Police U.P School in the fifth standard, the school’s headmaster told Mihir to participate in a school drama. Though he was looking healthy and quite fair, the teacher chose him for the role of Jamindar, and he performed well in that. Maybe it was the first sign from God to pursue his acting career for the rest of his life.

The Craziness Of Films From School Life

While Studying at M.K.C High School of Baripada, he usually bunks his classes to watch movies. He jumped the school boundary and went to the nearer Roxy Cinema hall to watch the first show of every movie. Most of the time, he only thought about movies and heroes. Even if he didn’t get the ticket price, he sold the old newspaper and watched movies. The same habits were repeated later also during his college time.

Untold Stories

Age sixteen brings new feelings into every young mind’s life. This is the period when both the brain and heart experience the same feeling. The same thing also happened with young Mihir Das after he joined college. He had liked a girl but never had dared to express his feelings, and some other girl also liked Mihir, but she also never expressed her feelings.

Later, while Mihir was in Ravenshaw college, he was in love with a girl, and their love continued for eight to nine months. Then, the girl got married to a govt officer rank guy, and so their story got full stop there. While sharing his memory, he has shared, twenty years after that breakup, one day, he just saw her in his dream and wanted to see her at least once. Coincidentally on that next day, while in the shooting, one person was looking for Mihir and told him that madam wanted to meet him. That madam was none other than his twenty years before close friend. They both got happy by meeting after a long time.

Life With The Film Career

While pursuing his degree in Ravenshaw, he served as Dramatic Secretary for two years. During that time, he got selected for a college drama in the role of a father, despite being younger than other participants. He performed well in that role and won the best actor prize. The veteran actor and director Mr Govind Tej came there as the jury. He saw Mihir’s performance and approached him for the role of Shatrughan in his upcoming film Ramayan. He went to Kolkata for that movie and stayed there for nearly one month, but that was a short role with only a single dialogue.

Later again, he got an opportunity as in the movie named School Master. Before that movie, Das only had some experience of several dramas, so he was fully confident about his performance in that movie. But when the film shooting started, he could not deliver his performance properly and often got criticism from the director throughout the movie. But in an interview, he mentioned, those criticisms later helped him improve his acting skills.

Besides that, he also mentioned that working with Aparajita Mohanty and Mahesweta Ray was quite tough. From an acting point of view, they both had higher skills, and he always tried to learn something new from them. In movies like Puo Mora Bhala Shankara, Abhimanyu, Cuttack, Stree, Laxmi Pratima are some of his iconic performances, which are unforgettable for Odia movie fans.
